Melissa Melnychuk

Hey, my name is Melissa! I am a compassionate and dedicated psychotherapist with a profound connection to humanity and an unwavering belief in the resilience of the human spirit. Guided by empathy and a deep understanding of individual struggles, I create a safe and supportive environment where clients feel truly seen and heard, ensuring that each session is a collaborative journey toward healing and growth. I am passionate about helping clients overcome challenges, tailoring my methods to unique client needs while empowering them to achieve their goals and thrive in all aspects of life. My care reflects my commitment to excellence and a genuine desire to make a meaningful difference.

My Journey
I have a Bachelor of Business Degree from Memorial University of Newfoundland, a Psychology (Honours) Undergraduate Degree from Dalhousie University, a Master of Counseling Psychology Degree from Yorkville University (Honours), and I am currently completing an MSc. Psychedelics in Exeter, England (remote). I am EMDR certified, and I also have certification in Integrative Sex and Couples therapy.

After traveling the world and witnessing a deep need for compassion and help, I entered the psychotherapy field, choosing to channel these experiences into a meaningful career. I have been inspired by the resilience and struggles observed across cultures, which spurred me to pursue advanced degrees in psychotherapy, followed by specialized training in EMDR. This perspective enables a culturally sensitive approach, allowing me to connect deeply with diverse clients. This background has allowed me to foster trust and provide empathetic, effective care addressing the universal healing need.

My Therapeutic Approach
As a therapist specializing in ADHD and trauma, I take a holistic and tailored approach depending on client needs. I integrate modalities such as mindfulness practices to improve focus and self-regulation alongside psychoeducation to help clients understand and manage symptoms. I use EMDR to process traumatic memories and reduce their emotional impact, and additionally, I employ trauma-informed care to create a safe and supportive environment, ensuring the interventions respect the client’s experiences and foster empowerment.

Specialties
I am a dedicated therapist specializing in trauma, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), and ADHD. My approach is rooted in compassion and tailored strategies to help clients navigate challenges, heal, and thrive. My passion for helping clients with ADHD and trauma is driven by a deep understanding of the unique challenges these individuals face. ADHD can affect self-esteem, relationships, and daily functioning, while trauma can leave lasting emotional scars. Supporting clients in overcoming these struggles is incredibly rewarding, empowering them to reclaim their lives, build resilience, and achieve their full potential.

What Clients Can Expect
Clients working with me can expect a structured yet flexible approach tailored to their unique needs in a non-judgmental atmosphere. Depending on client needs, we may focus on challenges such as improving focus, organization, and emotional regulation through the use of strategies such as mindfulness, behavioral techniques, or psychoeducation to build practical coping skills. For clients dealing with trauma, I can incorporate EMDR, guiding them through processing distressing memories in a safe and supportive environment to reduce their emotional impact while helping them feel understood and empowered to make progress.
